Our aim is to inspire and support safe, sustainable and healthy school journeys.

What we do

Information and Advice

Sustrans runs a free national schools information service, aimed at supporting schools, parents, pupils, local authorities and all those interested in school travel initiatives. Tel: 0117 915 0100, Email: schools@sustrans.org.uk

National Projects

We also have national School Travel teams running exciting new projects in Scotland and Northern Ireland, and our sister project, Bike It, works in hundreds of schools throughout England and Wales to increase the number of young people cycling to school. Sustrans also runs an Active Play project to complement our Schools work.

Resources

Our newsletters, factsheets, curriculum guides, case studies, sample travel plans, useful links, template forms and a host of other material are all available to download free from our Resources section.

News, Training and Events

Keep up-to-date with our News and Events listings, and information about specific school travel work and policies in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland can be found in our “Where are you?” section.

We provide training, DVDs, advice and networking opportunities, as well as holding national and regional events and conferences.

Policy

We work closely with policy makers and the media to raise the profile of school travel issues and the commitment to safe, sustainable and healthy journeys to school for every child in the UK.

The School Travel project is supported by the Department for Transport, the Scottish Government and a number of Charitable Trusts.

Bike It is a nationwide scheme which aims to increase the number of young people cycling to school and on other journeys. The project is funded by the cycle industry and Department for Transport and supported by the National Cycling Strategy Board. More information on Bike It.
